Suikoden is a game of great depth, with over 100 characters, many of which you control. Some
characters join you to fight, and others to lend other unique services. Some will remain
loyal and true, while others will deceive and betray you. Some are after selfless goals,
others fight for personal reasons, and still others hunger for power.
Here you will find a guide to the characters of Suikoden. There are the ones you can recruit, the 108 Stars of Destiny. There are other characters as well, either for or against your cause, that are not of the Stars of Destiny.
Stars of Destiny
These characters can be recruited to join the Liberation Army. Some will fight for you, and
others will lend some other special skill.

Other Important Characters
These characters play some important role in the story.
Emperor Barbarossa
Having salvaged the Empire after the Seven-Year Succession, he is known as "The Golden Emperor."
However, the state of the Empire is taking a turn for the worse as corruption runs rampant.
Many blame their former hero, who seems to have fallen for the Court Magician...
Windy
Windy is the Court Magician, said to bear a striking resemblance to the Emperor's late wife,
Claudia. She is actually a very powerful sorceress, able to live for centuries due to the
True Rune she carries -- the Rune of the Gate. She is said to be in search of another very
powerful Rune, which, when coupled with the Rune of the Gate, would bestow upon her supreme
power...
Leknaat the Seer
Leknaat is the sister of Windy, and holds a Rune of the Gate as well. The two runes are
actually counterparts, one being the "Front" Gate, and the other being the "Back." Having lost
her sight, Leknaat can use the stars to learn what the future may hold. As she studies the
skies, she can foresee the fate of the entire Scarlet Moon Empire hanging upon a single
soul...
Ted
Ted was taken in by General Teo, as an orphan. He and Teo's son, the Hero, grew to become
close friends. However, trouble brews once Ted uses the strange Rune on his hand while on one
of the Hero's first errands for the Empire...
General Teo
He is thought of by most as the greatest of the Five Great Imperial Generals. When he makes a
trip up north to protect the border against the United City-States of Jowstone, his son the
Hero begins his career working under the Imperials. Teo is a relentless servant of the
Empire, and refuses to change his beliefs, even when those very beliefs cause a bitter clash
between father and son...
Odessa Silverberg
She is the original leader of the Liberation Army, as well as Flik's girlfriend and Mathiu's
sister. Mathiu was an Imperial War tactician, and as his kin, Odessa held a high position
in the Empire. However, believing that one who has power and does not use it is a coward,
she had forsaken all to initiate the liberation movement, while Mathiu continued his job as a
schoolteacher in Seika...
Bit Players
These characters do not play as important a role, but are still vital to the plot.
Yuber, the Black Knight
Yuber is the most powerful general of the entire Imperial Army, and pure evil. He is capable
of destroying entire cities in an instant, although he rarely displays such power. You
never fight him, except for near the end of the game, in which you fight Yuber and his
army in an epic battle sequence. He is not a playable character.
Neclord
After suffering the effects of misusing a Rune, Neclord was transformed into a vampire. Since
he is a Runic Vampire, he is not as bound as normal vampires are (daylight only makes him
drowsy). Another one of the Empire's most powerful generals, he is nearly impossible to destroy,
with conventional weapons...
Sanchez
Sanchez allows you to change your traveling party members. This comes in handy when you wish
to go exploring (perhaps to find some new recruits), but talking to Mathiu would trigger an
event. Although he is one of the original members of the Liberation Army, no one really knows
too much about him. Can he really be trusted?
Ain Gide
He is the guard at The Fortress of Kwaba. He knowingly lets the Hero and his friends pass
when they are wanted as rebels, unaware of the series of events that would follow.
Kraze
Kraze plays nearly no role in the story at all, except to serve as the Hero's superior early in
the game and to exhibit the traits of a typical corrupt Imperial.
Kanaan
Kanaan is just another characteristic Imperial: greedy, underhanded, and somewhat dumb.
Star Dragon Sword
He is the only weapon capable of destroying Neclord. He also talks.
Hanzo
He is the leader of the Ninjas at Rokakku. He really does nothing in the game, and Rokakku is
never accessable.
